VBC’s charismatic founder and director, Sinn Meang, works tirelessly to improve the lives of fellow Cambodians. Like many Khmer people he knows first-hand what it is like to be poor. Born during the Khmer Rouge rule, he is the youngest child in a family of four. His father died when he was very young and he grew up in a poor family in a rural fishing village. Despite these early adversities, Sinn’s determination to make a difference has fueled his efforts at VBC. His leadership is driven by a deep understanding of the struggles faced by many Cambodians, and his tireless work reflects a profound commitment to improving the well-being of his community.

Dalin is energetic and motivated. She is the only one of four siblings to graduate from high school.

Dalin is full of energy and very motivated to succeed. She is the third of four children and the only one in her family to graduate from high school. She continues to push boundaries by pursuing an MBA while juggling her demanding full-time role at VBC. Her commitment to education and professional growth is matched only by her passion for empowering women and supporting those in need. She is deeply passionate in making a difference in the lives of Cambodians, and her leadership is characterized by a genuine desire to uplift her community. In her spare time, Dalin indulges in her love for singing, dancing, and reading, finding joy and balance outside of her professional life. Her vibrant personality and dedication make her an invaluable member of the VBC team.

Sen Rathana

HR/Administrative Officer

Sen Rathana is the HR and Administration Officer at VBC and holds a law degree from Build Bright University.

Sen Rathana is a Human Resources and Administration Officer at VBC. She has a bachelor's degree in law from Build Bright University in Siem Reap and a Certificate II of ASEAN Qualification in Food and Beverage Service-Guest Services from École d'Hôtellerie et de Tourisme Paul Dubrule. She has extensive experience working in private companies, where she also improved her English. Her passion for helping the rural poor and sharing knowledge with children inspired her to join our team. She enjoys working with volunteers from other countries, finding it beneficial for her personal development. Sen Rathana is grateful to Volunteers for Building Cambodia for giving her this opportunity, and she considers the organization her home and team, treating everyone like family.

Hello, I'm Navy. I began my career at VBC as a part-time finance officer, which was my first job. After eight months of gaining valuable experience and learning the ropes, I transitioned to a full-time position. VBC has provided me with numerous opportunities to develop my skills and grow professionally. Through my work at VBC, I've been able to contribute to helping the poor and improving their lives. This job not only allows me to assist others but also helps me learn and develop personally. I am passionate about making a difference in the community and am grateful for the chance to work in an environment that supports both my professional and personal growth.

Hi everyone! I'm Sela, and I've been a volunteer coordinator at VBC since July 2022. Although it hasn't been a long time, this role has quickly become my passion. What inspires me the most is our volunteers. They come from all over the world, giving their time, energy, and even their own money to help the Cambodian community. Their generosity is truly humbling. I'm also proud of our VBC team. We're a small group, but we're strong and work hard together, celebrating our successes. For me, being a staff member is just the beginning. I want to do more, especially for those who are most vulnerable, like victims of abuse. I want to be their advocate, fighting for them and giving them a voice. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

My name is Sam Oun, and I'm deeply grateful for the support and guidance from my mentors and supporters. Their encouragement has inspired me during tough times. I'm a dedicated scholarship student from Chikara Cambodia. In 2024, I proudly graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in TESOL from Pannasastra University of Cambodia in Siem Reap. I love teaching young students and have experience teaching English to primary school children. Together with other Chikara students, I also conduct workshops on hygiene and environmental awareness. Since May 2024, I've been working as a Project Officer at Volunteer Building Cambodia. This role allows me to help improve the living conditions of local families and develop my project management skills. I'm excited to keep learning and growing in project management and hope to make a lasting impact in my future career.

For two years, I searched for a stable job, studying, working, and interning in various NGOs, but opportunities were hard to find. Thankfully, in May 2024, I got a new job at VBC, where I can gain valuable experience in the social sector. I'm deeply grateful for this opportunity and the chance to grow in my career.

Greetings! I’m Hun Soun, a fourth-year student at Build Bright University, set to graduate in 2025 with a focus on English language instruction for foreign speakers. I hail from Chrey Khang Chauerng, Siem Reap, Cambodia, and recently married. I’m also a proud father. In addition to my academic pursuits, I own a small Maney Pizza restaurant in Angkor Chum. My professional journey includes teaching English at BCI International School from 2016 to 2017 and at World Mobilization from 2022 to 2024. I am passionate about teaching and aim to teach English in a public school. Currently, I am a social worker with VBC, where I engage in community development and support initiatives. Outside of work, I enjoy unwinding, playing the piano, and reading picture books. I am dedicated to continuous learning and growth, and I cherish the opportunity to make a positive impact through my work.

Bunthoeun Pheng is a valued member of the VBC team and has been with us since the beginning. Before joining VBC, Bunthoeun sold sugar cane juice, earning about $6 a day. Despite his modest past, he is known for his strong work ethic and willingness to tackle any job, whether large or small. Bunthoeun is deeply committed to his family. He is devoted to his wife and three daughters, working diligently to provide for them and ensure they have the opportunity to attend school. His dedication to both his work and his family is truly admirable.

Bunthorn, also known as Thon, became a valued member of the VBC team in July 2016.

Bunthorn, also known as Thon, became a valued member of the VBC team in July 2016. His early years were spent in an orphanage near Siem Reap, where he lived from age 12 to 17. During his time there, he had the opportunity to learn English from various volunteers. Thon has proven to be a dedicated and hardworking builder. Over the years, he has significantly developed his skills and now frequently takes on leadership roles. He often leads construction projects and provides direction to volunteers, showcasing his growth and commitment in his role.

Trang Langdet, often referred to as Mr. Det, initially joined our team as a builder in 2015. He worked with us.

Trang Langdet, often referred to as Mr. Det, initially joined our team as a builder in 2015. He worked with us for three years before leaving. In 2023, he returned to our organization, bringing with him a wealth of skills and experience. Mr. Det's return has been highly valuable to our team. He applies his extensive knowledge and expertise to ensure that the houses we build are of excellent quality. His contributions significantly enhance the effectiveness of our construction projects.

Barang, whose full name is Kouy Kann, is a dedicated family man from a district near our community center.

Barang, whose full name is Kouy Kann, is a dedicated family man from a district near our community center. He began working with VBC in August 2018, where he contributes to our warehouse operations. Prior to joining VBC, Barang experienced job instability and frequently changed employment, which led to financial insecurity for his family. Since starting at VBC, he has gained job security and considers it his dream job. His regular income has provided stability for his wife and two children. Barang particularly enjoys the opportunity to practice English with foreigners. He is confident, has a great sense of humor, and always looks forward to meeting new people.

Mr. Teng Sina is our youngest builder, having started with VBC on March 11, 2024. He has quickly become a valued member of our team. In his free time, Sina enjoys playing sports, which helps him stay active and energized. He was drawn to this job because he is passionate about the work we do and wants to make a positive impact by helping people in need. Sina is dedicated and enthusiastic about his role at VBC. Looking ahead, he aspires to become a police officer, demonstrating his commitment to serving and protecting his community in the future.

Vuth joined VBC as a truck driver in May 2024, bringing skills and experience that keep our team and volunteers safe.

Savuth Mou, known as Vuth, joined the VBC team as a truck driver in May 2024. His driving skills and experience ensure that our team and volunteers feel safe traveling from the city to our main office and building sites. Vuth is known for being a responsible and reliable driver. As a local, Vuth is enthusiastic about helping others and getting involved in community work. He expresses his appreciation for VBC by saying, “I love VBC and love working with generous volunteers from around the globe.” Outside of work, Vuth is a dedicated family man. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, growing vegetables, and taking care of his small chicken farm. He also likes to sing occasionally.

Ek Phannarong is the Head of Builder at Volunteer Building Cambodia (VBC), where he manages all construction projects.

Ek Phannarong brings over 5 years of experience as a site architect, having worked both for established companies and as a freelance consultant. His expertise covers various aspects of construction management, from planning and design to overseeing daily operations on-site. Ek is known for his technical proficiency, strong communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail, which allows him to solve complex challenges efficiently. His patience and ability to work well with diverse teams make him an invaluable asset to any construction project. Previously, Ek worked as a site architect supervisor for 2 years at a design company, where he was responsible for managing multiple construction sites and ensuring all projects met design and safety standards. He then spent 3 years as a freelance designer in Phnom Penh, leading a team of 20 skilled workers, including steelworkers, drywallers, electricians, and plumbers. His hands-on leadership and ability to manage resources effectively have resulted in a consistent record of completing projects on time and within budget, while maintaining high-quality standards.
